My name is Carla Fourie and I am a breast cancer survivor.

I had no idea my background and career would bring me to create BUDS, but fate has a way of shepherding us onto unexpected paths.

I studied graphic art at Stellenbosch University and spent a few years in the beauty and aesthetic industry. I combined these fields by studying special effects make-up in Australia and I have been working in the highly creative international film industry for almost 20 years.

In 2010 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My journey through treatment, my double mastectomy and surgical reconstruction led me to create the very first pair of BUDS stick-on nipples.

At first it was just for me, it helped me to have a fiercely practical project in a highly emotional space. But it became clear that this was something more women could use to help them feel better.

As BUDS evolved so have more options been crafted in the range of temporary stick-on and 3D nipple tattooing.
